A review that is worth reading, like the film, worth watching.
kikoasprer:

I can name a handful of movies that struck a chord in me and “The Impossible” is without a doubt one of them. A poignant story about love and the bond that keeps families together even at the face of tragedy. Its sings to your heart and tugs on your very soul.
“The Impossible” was based on a true to life story which makes it all the more incredible.
The storytelling didnt lag at all and the cinematography was exquisite but to me the main reason why the movie was such a delight was the performance of Tom Holland; the eldest son. He was both delicate as he was effective; a true thespian on the rise.
If you have not seen “The Impossible”, I highly recommend that you watch it. It is really an excellent film worth your time.

How much do you love your spouse?
Michael Haneke’s masterpiece “Amour” is a heart-tugging love story of an elderly French couple. Emmanuelle Riva portrays a well-mannered former music teacher who suffers a stroke that severely places immense pressure on the her marriage. Her dutiful and devoted husband played by Jean-Louis Trintignant (who was snubbed by the Academy) is left to take care of her. This film shows just how much love they shared and how that love is put to the test.
I have never really enjoyed watching foreign subtitled films, in fact I can only name about 2 films that I actually labored to watch from beginning to end. “Amour” is no ordinary movie. It is delicate and heart-wrenching. Absolutely beautiful.

“Beasts of the Southern Wild” is extraordinary.
The story of Hushpuppy, six-year old dandelion-haired girl living in a desolate bayou community wrestling with her imagination and the harsh realities that crept upon her once peaceful existence. Its a story of family and of survival, of holding on to what you believe in and the courage to see it thru.
Beautifully shot, the imagery was superb and the little heroine played by Quvenzhane Wallis is surely to win your heart. She was tender and real all the while magnificent, a true Oscar contender.
“Beasts of the Southern Wild” is one of the those movies you may just dismiss upfront but if you do decide to see it; I promise you will not regret it.

A HONEST REVIEW. DONT BE BIAS. WATCH IT, THEN READ THIS.
kikoasprer:

Is “Pitch Perfect” just another underdog movie?
The movie is about (once again) a bunch of misfits who battled the odds and come out on top. Its the same formula over and over again the only difference with “Pitch Perfect” is that it revolves around an all-girl vocal acapella group so expect some bitch-slapping and cattiness. Though there were funny parts (mainly thanks to Rebel Wilson), you cannot help but think, “haven’t I seen this s#!t before?’.
The movie has Anna Kendrick playing the lead character who was good though I never thought she would actually do this sort of film being an Oscar nominee and all but bottom line, she was relatable and effective for the most part. Being a musical, I really liked the different takes (acoustically) on today’s popular music. It was not Glee-ish at all and it showed the sub-genre of music, we do not hear that often. I don’t know if the actor’s actual voices were used on the movie, I would like to think they did.
After seeing “Pitch Perfect”, it made me realize that there is really nothing special about the movie that would separate itself from the other movies in its category except maybe Elizabeth Banks’ one-liners.

Love is crazy and people in love are crazier but happens when crazy people fall in love?
“Silver Linings Playbook” was a welcome surprise. I was taken totally off guard by its sheer wit and humor.  It’s a beautifully written story about mental illness and finding love in spite of it; proving that love is in deed crazy most of the time.
This has got to be Bradley Cooper’s most memorable performance to date (he really should do more movies that show off his acting chops rather than his body) and Jennifer Lawrence (this lady might just win the Oscar) is simply terrific. In fact, the Oscar nods for all the cast, including Robert de Niro and Jacki Weaver for their supporting roles were all well-deserved.
“Silver Linings Playbook” is a delight. Its funny and charming. It begs the question, “Aren’t we all a little crazy when it comes to love?” If you have the opportunity to see the film, please do and I can honestly say, you will walk away from it, smiling.
